The Alma Symphony Orchestra has receives a $1,500.00 mini-grant

The Alma Symphony Orchestra has received a $1,500.00 mini-grant from the MEEMIC Foundation for the Future of Education. The funding, requested by Dr. Murray Gross, a professor at Alma College in Alma, MI, will underwrite two 45-minute educational concerts designed for fourth grade students titled, "Let's Dance; Music and Movement."

Said Dr. Gross, "The educational concerts, scheduled for early February, have been designed to complement classroom instruction. Instructional guides have been distributed in advance of the performances to assist teachers in preparing their students to fully enjoy the concert experience. In addition, a volunteer from the Alma Symphony Council will visit classrooms to introduce basic musical concepts and discuss appropriate concert behaviors. At the performance itself, we will introduce instruments of the orchestra through a variety of short works and explore the delights of classical music and its connection to movement and dance."
